Can Demons Be Attached To Objects? Can Houses Be Haunted?
Demons need—well in the spiritual realm are required to have—legal rights to enter and occupy the space that they are in. This occurs through some type of human connection to sin breaking God’s Law.
In the case of a cursed object, it only needs to be created by a human for, or guilty of being used by humans for, violating God’s Law.
Some examples might include anything related to witchcraft, Ouija boards, pornography, weapons that were used to unlawfully harm someone, demonic music or movies or pictures, dream catchers and other things used for spiritism, anything connected to blood sacrifice or false god worship.
One that is very commonly cursed is artifacts of statues and figurines and idols purchased in the shops of countries with high levels of voodoo and witchcraft. These are often created in the image of some type of false god, “blessed” through ceremonial ritual, and “prayed” over. People from western countries unknowingly buy this stuff thinking it just “looks cool.”
These people start getting harassed by demons and we’re not able to get them to leave until we destroy or remove the object from the premises.
Good passages regarding curses in the Bible include Deuteronomy 27, 28, 30 and Jeremiah 44.
In this warning to Israel, notice how God says that certain objects are cursed, and their curses will fall upon them if they keep them. This is part of the reason all of certain tribes in Canaan were to be completely destroyed.
Deuteronomy 7:23 But the LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed. Deuteronomy 7:24 He will hand their kings over to you, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will annihilate them. Deuteronomy 7:25 You must burn up the images of their gods; do not covet the silver and gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it; for it is detestable to the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 7:26 And you must not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. You are to utterly detest and abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.
Nothing set apart for destruction shall be found in your hands.
Deuteronomy 13:16 And you are to gather all its plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a mound of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt. Deuteronomy 13:17 Nothing set apart for destruction shall be found in your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as He swore to your fathers,
It would bring destruction not only upon their own house but the entire camp too.
God with withdraw His presence and protection from those who carry accursed objects.
Joshua 7:11 Israel has sinned; they have transgressed My covenant that I commanded them, and they have taken some of what was devoted. Indeed, they have stolen and lied about it, and they have put these things with their own possessions. Joshua 7:12 This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They will turn their backs and run from their enemies, because they have been set apart for destruction. I will no longer be with you unless you remove from among you whatever is devoted to destruction. Joshua 7:13 Get up and consecrate the people, saying, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: That which is devoted is among you, O Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it. Joshua 7:15 The one who is caught with the devoted things must be burned, along with all that belongs to him, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD and committed an outrage in Israel.”
