Which passage in the Bible states that homosexuality is a sin?

God’s original design for marriage and sex — Genesis 2:20–24

Genesis 2:20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. Genesis 2:21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Genesis 2:22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Genesis 2:23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” Genesis 2:24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Included in the long list of forbidden sexual practices in the Law of Moses — Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13

Leviticus 18:22 “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.

Leviticus 20:13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Considered an unnatural lustful temptation of the flesh caused by spiritual depravity — Romans 1:25–27

Romans 1:25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is forever praised. Amen. Romans 1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. Romans 1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Jesus not only agreed with obeying the Law outwardly, He raised the stakes to also deal with the Heart — Matthew 5:27-28, 15:18–20

Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Matthew 15:18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts–murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Matthew 15:20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

Matthew 19:4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ Matthew 19:5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? Matthew 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Matthew 19:7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” Matthew 19:8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

Included in the bare minimum list of requirements for new Gentile Christians — Acts 15:19–21

Acts 15:19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Acts 15:20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. Acts 15:21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

Included in the list of immoral and ungodly practices the Law was made for — 1 Timothy 1:9–11

1 Timothy 1:9 We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 1 Timothy 1:10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers–and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 1 Timothy 1:11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Included in the list of immoral practices that will exclude Christians from Heaven — 1 Corinthians 6:9

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 1 Corinthians 6:10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Included by Jesus in the list of immoral and ungodly practices by those who will not inherit Heaven — Revelation 2:20–22, 22:14–16

Revelation 2:20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. Revelation 2:21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. Revelation 2:22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.

Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
